Who buys the Freaky Frida 100% soy wax 1kg bags?
Soy wax flakes: We have been selling the most consistent, pure soy wax for years. It has been popular among professional candle makers, school teachers and home hobbyists.
Why we love the Freaky Frida 100% soy wax flakes
You want consistency and performance when making your soy wax candles. Once your ideal fragrance ratio is found through your testing, the Freaky Frida 100% soy wax will not disappoint. It won’t morph when the temperature drops, resulting in wax shrinkage, and you do not see the wax ‘coming away’ from the edges of the jar once the wax has cooled and settled. One of the best traits of this wax is its ability to perform consistently in cooler climates, retaining a creamy, smooth soy finish with no shrinkage.
Our 100% pure soy wax has a beautiful creamy appearance that finishes just like a boutique candle. Putting a Freaky Frida soy wax candle next to leading branded candles would be hard to tell the difference.
Easily create great-looking candles, ready for any retail shelf. Or enjoy the beautiful aromas in your very own home.
Personal testing
The beauty of soy candle making is in your testing. Have fun while you create fragrance blends and work with jars, temperatures and wicks to find the perfect candle for you.
There are no wax hardeners or percentages of other waxes in the Freaky Frida soy wax.
Fragrance testing
Fragrance tolerance of 8 to 10% depends on the fragrance oil’s potency and quality. We recommend and use the Freaky Frida fragrance oils. However, there are many oils available in the candle supplies market. These are both essential and fragrant, so we do recommend required testing for optimum results.
Yes, scent throw is highly dictated by the strength and percentage of fragrances used when making your soy candle. You must remember that pouring with suitable wax is just as important. The wax used to make the candle also plays a big part in cold and hot scent throw, and because the Freaky Frida soy wax is a pure, unblended wax made from re-hydrated soy oils that have been developed as opposed to palm or paraffin oils, it has excellent hot and cold scent throw.
The finer points
Personal testing when making your soy candles is required as we accept no responsibility for the outcome and performance of the Freaky Frida soy wax. We encourage you to experiment with different processes to achieve your perfect soy candle.
Soy wax flakes burn time
The size of the jar and the wick heavily controls burn time. Measuring the width of your jar or pot is crucial to get an accurate wick size. The right wick size is essential as you want your candle to burn consistently, not too fast or too light. You should expect consistency when you burn your candle.

Freaky Frida wooden wicks
Wooden wicks are used in container candles. They feature a beautiful wide flame and produce a distinct crackling sound. You can use them alone or in a larger jar or pot that needs a multi-wick.
Our Freaky Frida, natural wood wicks, will give your hand-poured soy wax candles a heightened sense of luxury.
Each wood wick pack contains ten uncoated premium wooden wicks and metal tabs for easy assembly.
Freaky Frida wood wick size with burn diameter:
- Wood Wick 8 – burn diameter of jar 24 mm to 40 mm
- Wood Wick 10 – burn diameter of jar 40 mm to 60 mm
- Wood Wick 12 – burn diameter of jar 60 mm to 76 mm
- Wood Wick 15 – burn diameter of jar 76 mm to 92 mm

- Wood Wick 20 – burn diameter of jar 96 mm to 112 mm

- Wood Wick 25 – burn diameter of jar 129mm to 144 mm
- Wood Wick 30 – burn diameter of jar 144 mm to 160 mm
Freaky Frida pouring pot
The Freaky Frida 300ml enamel pouring pot is excellent when quickly pouring small candles or tealights. Place the pouring pot in a larger saucepan with water and a trivet to double-boil your wax. Double boiling is essential, as you don’t want to burn your soy wax. Once the wax is melted, pour it into a prepared jar or pot. To clean your Freaky Frida pouring pot, wipe it out with a paper towel.
Candle thermometer
The Freaky Frida candle thermometer is made of durable glass and can be wiped clean after use. When using your thermometer, stir your soy wax often. The wax will fully melt at around 60 degrees. Avoid temperatures above 70 degrees, as it will burn the wax and evaporate your fragrance.
- When the wax is 60 degrees Celsius and fully melted, pour in the fragrance and stir well.
Soy wax flakes tips and troubleshooting:
- Frosting can happen when pouring the candle into cold jars. Warm jars before pouring the wax into them to reduce frosting. You can use a heat gun or hair dryer to heat jars.
- Sinkholes are caused by pouring wax that is too hot. Pouring slowly into containers/glass at room temperature reduces bubbles and holes.
- The shorter your wick is, the neater the flame you will have.
- Oil is Seeping out of the wax, you have used too much fragrance, and the soy wax can’t hold it. Soy Wax has a fragrance load of 6-10% only.
- Wick doesn’t stay lit. Your wick is either too small or clogged with fragrance or dye.
- Wick Smoking can be caused by the room being too draughty. The wick may be too big, or the use of too much fragrance.
- Uneven top: if you have an irregular top on the candle, you can rectify it using a hair dryer or heat gun to melt and smooth the top once it is set.
