Canvas crease hot tip

Are you struggling to eliminate that stubborn crease in your canvas? It’s a common roadblock in the journey to a flawless masterpiece. But worry not. We have some tips for you.

• First, let us assure you that it is possible to stretch your canvas cleanly, even if it has a stubborn crease. Yes, you heard it right. All it requires is a bit of patience, the proper technique and a dash of creativity.

• Here’s your hot tip: You will need a spray bottle filled with warm water. Lightly spray the back of the canvas where the crease is. Be careful not to soak it; make it slightly damp. Now, gently rub the creased area with a clean cloth, moving outward from the crease’s centre. This process helps to relax the fibres of the canvas, making it more pliable and ready to stretch.

• Once you’ve done this, carefully stretch the canvas over your frame, ensuring it’s taut but not overly tight. Secure it with staples or canvas pliers, repeating the process until the entire canvas is smoothly stretched over your frame.

It is an easy obstacle to overcome. That stubborn crease is just a stepping stone to your next great masterpiece. 

Stretching your 1.6x10m cotton canvas roll

You have taken your creativity to the next level and decided to stretch your canvases. Here are the five essentials to achieve that perfect, taut surface for your next masterpiece.

First up is the wooden frame. Opt for quality stretcher bars or a nice sturdy piece of pine- the backbone of your canvas. The corners should be a perfect 90° angle to ensure your canvas will be taut and level.

Pay attention to the following essentials – a staple gun and pliers. As you stretch your canvas, you’ll secure it to the frame with staples. A sturdy, reliable staple gun will ensure the canvas stays taught. All professional stretchers use canvas pliers.

Scissors, third on our list, are indispensable. Sharp blades will help you trim the canvas neatly and precisely. Remember, precision is critical in preparing your canvases.

No need to worry about applying Gesso
